The family moved to these quiet ten acres in 1971. We were a family of five with children - Greg, Karen, and Kirk. During the those years that the children were growing up, we had cats, rabbits, dogs (and puppies), a horse, and raised steers for our own consumption. The animals provided entertainment and 4-H projects as well as chores for the kids- they were never fond of cleaning the barn in the spring.
As the children moved out my husband, Allen, and I started reducing the animals on the farm so we could do some traveling and sightseeing in our retirement. However, with Allen's unfortunate passing, I needed to reconsider my future plans.
I chose to bring animals back into my life because I realized how much I love caring for them, watching them grow, and having children of their own.
I have had alpacas on the farm for about 10 years now. In that time, my herd has grown from 2 to around 25. I have made many modifications and additions to the barn and pastures and gone to many shows with animals.
I am a member of A.O.B.A, Suri Network, MaPaca, and O.A.B.A. and ARI (as a voting member). I served a two year term as president of O.A.B.A., and several years ago, I went with a group to Peru with the primary purpose of visiting the famed Accoyo ranch.
